House Renovation Part 2

Wood Flooring

Here comes another update of our house's renovation. My hubs has been quite interested to have wood flooring for our rooms. So we went on to get contacts and research about it. We came across a few company but this particular company is what most people recommended - Jia Yee Corporation. In short JYC.

We went to their shop and we are interested in their INOVAR Floor wood, 8mm. After much consideration, we have decided to let them do our business. During that time, HomeDec Penang is around the corner. So they advise us to lock down during the fair to get better and cheaper deal. For the time being, they can go and take the measurement of our home first. So we agreed.

These are some of the option and one of the price range from the shop. It could varies from time to time.
Other than the price of the wood, there's other charges as well, which include profile end, profile adaptation and altering the door.

At first we would like to do it for all the rooms, but at last we have decided to only do for our master bedroom. The price quoted before the fair is RM 2k+ for the master bedroom. During fair, the price is RM 1k+.
Putting foam below the wood flooring
It took them about half a day to fix up one room. Here's the end product.

Indeed they have special price during fairs. I would encourage you who are interested to grab them during fairs. And as far as I know, they will only participate in HomeDec in Penang, which only held twice a year.

We are happy with what we get. You could drop by yourself to know more.

Fall in love with Mille Crêpe

I remember the first time I tried Mille Crêpe cake back in year 2009. It was in Malacca, few of us were celebrating a friend's birthday and she insisted to have Mille Crêpe birthday cake.

Well it didn't really impressed me and I can't even remember the taste. Until I have a date with Mille Crêpe by Vanilla Cakes in SS 15 Subang, it totally captured my heart! The cake is proportionately sweet and I can finish 1 or 1 1/2 cake on my own, just can't resist!

The creaminess of the crepe cake combines well with the flavors. Normally they have most of the flavors available, and if you order their main course (Chicken chop, spaghetti...etc), you can get 20% discount for the cakes! Isn't it fantastic?

Try it and you will love it!

The Journey Ahead

Flipping through my notes, I found this lyric. It was written by my sister. I asked a favor from her to write this out. Initially was to make a song out of it, as during that time, it was my graduation. However, I didn't manage to compose a song. Instead, I call it a poem.

Sky bright, rocky road;
I see birds soar, flower bloom;
Where will this road take me?
Some might find gold,
Some an empty cart,
Or should I find and old dragon,
Puffing out smoke?

Mind clear, throat quenched;
The weather by my side.
Bid a goodbye I shall;
To a child once I held dear.
Foot stepped firm yet uncertain;
Until I reach a certain part of the road;
Where there are many paths ahead.

Will the clouds cover the sun tomorrow?
Or will there be bread tomorrow?
Dark shadows from the abyss poisons’ my mind.

Day time I feel alone;
My voice can’t reach the world;
At night I isolate myself;
Fear creep up from my covers,
And haunt me during the day.
At time I may feel old;
Appearance may not tell so;
But I feel it inside.
Like butter spread over too much bread.

Stray not my heart;
The journey that I have chosen will not end easily.
As long as these stubborn legs continue to walk;
I shall guide it!

Shake off the insecurity.
None shall tell you how to walk,
Nor to breathe the air.
Unfortunate events may occur;
But too little time to mourn!

But at last, this all I have to say:
Starry night shall not put my heart to sleep
Wind of my home town will not carry me
At dusk I shall mourn for bed
At dawn with foreign bread
But fear not my heart, for this is not the first
The world ahead through many shadows and linger hearts
All shall past, all shall fade.

"Fried coleslaw"

Last week, I suddenly recall of a finger food which I love very much during my secondary school year. I still remember one of my best buddy she made this finger food and let me try it. Such awesome bites and I almost forgotten about it. So immediately I drop my bestie a message and ask her for the recipe. This was my mission for the past weekend. Bringing back my memory!

I don't know the actual name of this finger food, neither my friend did as this was passed down to her by her "Kakak" (maid) last time. So I have decided to call it Fried Coleslaw since it has the same main ingredient as Coleslaw Salad. Let's get started!

Ingredients:
1/4 of medium size cabbage (shredded)
1 1/2 of medium size carrot (shredded)
1 cup of all purpose flour
1 cup of water
Salt and pepper (season according to own preferences)

Steps:
1. Prepare all the ingredients as picture above.
2. Prepare the flour base. Pour the water slowly, stages by stages into the flour and stir well. Mix the flour until it feels thick and not too watery.

3. Next, add in the shredded cabbage and carrot. Then season with salt and pepper according to own preferences.

4. Pre-heat the pan with some oil on medium fire. After the oil is hot enough, you could take a spoonful of the "coleslaw" and lay it flat in the oil. Remember, not too thick. (But also, it is very much depending on personal liking. You could experiment with think and thin ones, see which one you like the most!)

After the bottom has turn golden, flip to fry the top of the "coleslaw". Be sure to keep an eye on it, so that it won't over fried. The taste will become quite bitter.

5. After done frying, cool it off awhile on kitchen towel. Then it is done to be served. You could just have it like that, or dip in ketchup or chili sauce.

Happy trying, enjoy! Let me know whether you like it or not. :)

Favourite Kuey Teow Th'ng!

To begin with, I'm never really a big fan of Kuey Teow Th'ng. The main reason is because generally it's just some really plain soup with Kuey Teow and most of the time its tasteless. It just doesn't appeal to me much. So usually, I won't order Kuey Teow Th'ng for my lunch or dinner.

Till one day, I came to this coffee shop in Butterworth named Kedai Kopi Kean Huat. I was working around that area and decided to have a quick lunch. I saw that they have Kuey Teow Th'ng and out of nowhere, I ordered it. To my surprised, it tastes really good and I loved it very much! It looked just like an ordinary bowl of Kuey Teow Th'ng, but when I ate it, it has this taste which could bring me back to some memory. Very nostalgic. Apart from that, the Kuey Teow was smooth and 'Q' enough; the minced meat blends in very well with the soup and the Kuey Teow. Slurp!
Small RM 3.50; Large RM 4.50
Now whenever I work around Butterworth area, I will be sure to drop by this coffee shop. They also have other food choices available like fried rice, fried noodles, etc and are very nice too! I tried their claypot yee mee, and it was delicious!

This coffee shop runs by Chow family and they are all very lovely people. I recommend to come by and experience the food yourself. Their location:

Kedai Kopi Kean Huat
Jalan New Ferry, 12000 Mukim 15, Butterworth,
Pulau Pinang.
Operation Hours: Monday to Saturday 7am - 4pm
(Closed on Sunday)

Good things are meant to be shared! Cheers!
